About this tool

QR codes are the fastest bridge between the physical and digital world. Restaurants put them on tables for menus, shops use them for payments and Wi-Fi sharing, and event organizers print them on tickets. Anyone with a phone camera can scan one in seconds.

Our free QR code generator creates them instantly in your browser. Type any text or web address, press the button, and your code appears, ready to screenshot or share. Nothing to install and no account needed.

How to use

Enter the text or URL you want the code to hold, then press Generate QR Code. The code renders immediately below the button. For a website link, include the full address starting with https:// so phones open it correctly.

To save the code, right-click it and save the image, or take a screenshot. Test it by pointing your phone camera at it before printing.

The math behind it

A QR code stores your text as a grid of black and white squares using Reed-Solomon error correction, which is why codes still scan when partly damaged or dirty. Longer text creates a denser grid, so short URLs scan more reliably at small print sizes.

This tool builds the code with a standard open-source library at medium error-correction level, a good balance of density and durability for everyday uses like links and contact details.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
A static QR code stores your content directly in the pattern โ€” it works forever but can't be changed. A dynamic QR code stores a short redirect link, so you can change the destination and track scans later. This tool creates static codes.
Do QR codes expire?
Static QR codes never expire โ€” the content is baked into the pattern with no server involved. They stop working only if what they point to, like a deleted web page, disappears.
What can I put in a QR code?
Website URLs, plain text, Wi-Fi network names and passwords, contact cards (vCard), email addresses and phone numbers. URLs are the most common use.
Can I track how many people scan my QR code?
Not with a static code alone. To measure scans, add UTM parameters to your link (for example ?utm_source=qr) and point it at a page with analytics.
Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes โ€” free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limits. Codes are generated entirely in your browser, so nothing you type ever leaves your device.
